We made it back from the lake yesterday (Instead of the "Lake House" , John is calling it "The Ache House"...we are so exhausted from our little adventure). The good news (still crossing our fingers, since it's not final as yet)--but it looks like she's got an offer!!! YEA!!!!!!!!! The second couple to look at the house just called and they agreed to a price and they are preparing the offer. She is supposed to get it later this week, along with an earnest money check. I am ready to scream with excitement, but am trying to keep calm until they get it in writing, have the check in hand and have set a closing date. This couple is the perfect fit for the house.
We just spent the past 3 days cleaning out closets and worst of all- the garage, the "boat house" and what my mom calls "the bomb shelter" (the room under the 3 season porch). It was horrifying!!!!! I spent the first few days without John there--packing and sorting. Once John got to the lake, we started on the really awful parts--the garage and boat house. It was hot and sweaty and John was pulling boxes and miscellaneous junk down from the rafters with mouse turds falling in his face. A typical lake house, we found years of accumulated "stuff. We found flares dated January 1956 and absolutely vintage drills, saws and a collection of nuts and bolts and screws -enough to fill a hardware store. Oh, and of course, the empty ice cream pails and plastic tubs from Cool Whip....you can never have too many of these things (according to my Mom- always useful for gardening). We borrowed one of their friend's trucks and loaded it -twice- with stuff for the junk yard. Then we lucked out with a free county "hazardous waste" drop off (another truck full of really old paint, deck cleaners and horrible toxic stuff). By Saturday, we were absolutely exhausted - mentally and physically and decided it was time for a break....so we have a few days before we head back for another go-around before we head out for the east coast.
